INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY: MGM’s Revolution in Marble Processing
FROM HALF A CENTURY OF EXCELLENCE TO A NEW CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Since 1969, MGM La Marmoteca has distinguished itself in the processing sector of over 200 types of marble, granite, stone, and quartz. Our extensive experience, combined with a constant commitment to innovation, has allowed us to refine production techniques through the use of state-of-the-art CNC machinery, ensuring high-quality design products that meet contemporary needs.
Over the years, we have intensified our research towards the most valuable materials, always focusing on improving processes to guarantee high-quality standards. This approach has allowed us to excel both in terms of design and in the efficient management of resources.
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN WATER USAGE
Recently, our industrial water management system has undergone a radical transformation thanks to the support of the call for proposals by Regione Lombardia and Unioncamere Lombardia, within the initiative “Call for Innovation in Circular Economy Supply Chains.” The implementation of the project marks a turning point for MGM La Marmoteca, as it has allowed the company to increasingly align with an “economy green-oriented” approach.
The project has incentivized the introduction of advanced systems for recovering raw materials, effectively transforming all semi-finished and finished products into reusable resources that would otherwise become difficult-to-dispose-of waste. The reassessment and functional recovery also extend to the storage of raw stones in our warehouses, emphasizing our circular economy cycle in stone processing.
This project, coupled with our investments, has made it possible to reduce water and energy consumption, positioning the company as a benchmark for innovation and sustainability in the market.
All processing stages are carried out internally using CNC machines. As part of a restructuring and expansion of production activities, the company has paid particular attention to managing industrial water used in the production cycle, focusing on the following main aspects:
- energy saving for water cycle management;
- energy saving for the purification process management;
- water conservation in the production process.
These actions establish new standards for the stone processing industry in terms of environmental responsibility and sustainability.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND RESULTS OF THE CHANGE
From a quantitative perspective, we can already estimate the impact of the project:
- Waste reduction: -15% in 2023 compared to the value in 2022
- Reduction in raw material consumption: -4% in 2023 compared to the value in 2022
- Reduction in water and energy consumption: under evaluation in the first half of 2024
- Reduction in warehouse space (optimization of dedicated area use for better time to market management): 10% reduction while maintaining the same level of processed material
TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
These choices reflect our vision of an industry that not only aspires to production excellence but also commits to a more responsible use of natural resources.
At MGM La Marmoteca, we believe that the revolution in the stone processing sector involves a new path of circular economy, with an approach that combines experience, innovative design, and increasingly “zero waste” goals to actively contribute to the creation of a more sustainable future and consistently ensure high product quality.
